The Coronavirus Global Response Initiative was a remarkable achievement of global solidarity, mobilizing nearly $8 billion for the fight against #COVID19 . It demonstrated 3 principles that must remain at the heart of the pandemic response.

“Because we had a network that existed as part of our work, we were able to mobilize more than 400 scientists worldwide in a very short period of time.”

As lockdown restrictions are beginning to lift, all eyes remain on #COVID19 ’s reproductive or R number. However, “what’s as important as the R number is the total number of cases across a population that an R increase would cause.”

The impacts of #COVID19  are different for men and women. It’s essential that these differences are addressed in pandemic strategies for a more effective and sustainable response.

An estimated 200 million people in east Africa struggle with food security. If left unchecked, the second wave of locust infestations expected during this pandemic will exacerbate this number.

#COVID19 isn’t the first pandemic humanity has faced. Archaeological evidence reveals that ancient African communities used strategies like dispersed housing and sanitation to adapt to past pandemics.

As leaders look to build an inclusive and effective pandemic response, “the guiding question always should be: Are women and men affected differently by this issue, and, if so, how can we achieve fairer outcomes?”

Due to #COVID19 : - Maternal deaths across the world could climb by more than a third - Child deaths could rise by as much as 45% We must preserve access to essential health services, like immunizations, family planning, and pregnancy-related care.

These 5 heroes are keeping their communities safe and resilient in the face of #COVID19 .

Women are on the frontlines of #COVID19  as healthcare workers, caregivers at home, community leaders, and more. This disease and its impacts will not be gender-neutral and the way we respond can’t be either.
