Nick Markakis on the Astros: "every single guy over there needs a beating" via @HardballTalk

@HardballTalk  There are rumors going around that once, back in 2009, he said that the bacon on the clubhouse spread before a Sunday game “could stand to be a bit more crispy,” but that’s never been confirmed. I consider it baseless and salacious to even suggest it.

Sometimes I stare into middle distance and imagine what everyone is gonna do when the inevitable story comes out of Houston about how the Astros players are collecting bulletin board material and using that motivation to overcome adversity. It's being written now. You know it.

Feel like simulated golf twitter is gonna come after me now. Guys, really: I'm a bowler. I have no room to talk smack about anyone's hobbies. Let's all meet at the simulacrum of the clubhouse. We'll call it the "19th hole" or "the 11th frame."

Manfred could help move baseball past this by saying he neglected and then underestimated the sign-stealing problem, that mistakes he and the league made created the situation where players can't be disciplined, that he's sorry, and that he'll do better. He won't, but he could.

"Get an education. Better yourself!" (tuition triples, income stays flat) "Can't afford college? learn a trade!" (spends 40 years busting unions, slashing benefits) "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps! Start a business!" (supports healthcare system shackled to W2 work)

Two years ago today Wikipedia notified me that someone at my IP address had vandalized the page for Mallard ducks. It turned out to be my then-12-year-old daughter.

"Chile becomes 'Long Chile,' removing the entire west coast and causing Chilean-American War" was not something I was really expecting.

Afternoon bump. It's been an ugly week in a lot of ways and there are lots of reasons to be grumpy, but the response to this from BTS fans has been sweet and heartening and it's a good reminder that there is more than negativity in the world. @BTS_ARMY

Here's the thing about the Astros bad apologies: it's not because they're tone deaf or because they have bad P.R. It's because they're not sorry.
