Politics

Across the country, parents are putting their children to bed, reading stories, singing lullabies—and in the back of their minds, they’re worried about what might happen tomorrow after they drop their kids off at school, or take them to a grocery store or any other public space.

Imagine how many children wouldn’t be slaughtered in school if being pro-life was more than just a talking point for Republicans in Congress.

We’re also angry for them. Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook—and ten days after Buffalo—our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies.

It’s long past time for action, any kind of action. And it’s another tragedy—a quieter but no less tragic one—for families to wait another day.

Biden’s speech on the big screen at Herschel Walker’s victory party. “As a nation, we have to ask when in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?” Biden says. The crowd yells out boos.

My little boy just asked “did the bad guy from the grocery store come back? Is he going to come to our house?” *Now the MAGA-Republicans will mock my son or say I’m making this up as they did when he asked about Buffalo. But these are the questions parents are fielding tonight.

May God bless the memory of the victims, and in the words of Scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.

Kelley and I are horrified by this senseless massacre. Our prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Enough! This kind of carnage in our nation is not inevitable. We have the power to change this. We can not normalize, tolerate, accept this. We must hold those accountable who have the power but are refusing to support real substantive gun reform that Americans want.
