"I believed implicitly that this was a work event." When I worked as a carer in that same lockdown, my colleagues and I weren't having drinks together at the end of our shifts. We knew the difference. We knew it was against the rules. So did Boris Johnson. He's lying.

The Met is using the same lines as Tory ministers - refusing to do or say anything unless the Sue Gray inquiry finds evidence. Gray's inquiry is not independent. She is a civil servant investigating a government she works for. Why should that prevent a criminal investigation?

I wrote to the Met after the first Downing St parties were revealed, a) calling for an investigation, and b) asking why police officers stationed there did not enforce Covid regulations. Here's the non-reply I received today.

6 million households could be in fuel poverty by April. We urgently need: 💰 Emergency funding to support the hardest-hit, through a windfall tax on fossil fuel giants 🏠 A national programme to insulate homes 💡 Energy brought back into public ownership

Ashling Murphy was murdered on Wednesday while jogging, in an area known as "Fiona’s Way" after Fiona Pender, who disappeared (suspected murdered) in 1996. Our world is still unsafe for women. My love and thoughts are with Ashling’s loved ones and all women living in fear.

Our democratic rights are being criminalised. The #PolicingBill  will mean that anyone attending a demo is at risk of arrest, of prosecution, of having their lives turned upside-down. Solidarity with those marching to #KillTheBill  in Nottingham and across the country today.

The Tories have voted to mandate photo ID to vote in elections - supposedly to stop voter fraud, which is practically non-existent. Almost 1 in 10 people do not have any form of photo ID. The stats are higher for marginalised groups. This is voter suppression.

If the Tories really wanted fairer elections, they’d extend the vote to 16 and 17 year olds and migrants living in the UK, and introduce proportional representation.

The government lost 14 votes in the House of Lords last night. Many of the new powers Priti Patel had added to the #Policing Bill to criminalise protest have gone. This wouldn't have happened without the #KillTheBill  movement. Protest works. Now to defeat the entire Bill.

Dominic Raab defended this picture because they were "having a drink after the formal business has been done". In that same lockdown a care worker who had just finished her shift was fined £200 for sitting alone in her car at a local beauty spot.

Tory MPs voting against Covid Plan B “to protect civil liberties”, when this week they voted to give the government powers to strip almost 6 million Brits of their citizenship without notice or notification. Maybe, just maybe, they don’t really care about civil liberties.

If you thought the Policing Bill was bad before, that was nothing compared to the latest version. Priti Patel has quietly added further measures to effectively criminalise protest. These laws belong in a dictatorship, not a democracy. Some of the worst new powers 👇🏽 1/5

A private jet produces 10 times the emissions per person as an economy class flight. World leaders used 400 private jets for #COP26 , emitting as much CO2 as 1,600 Scottish people do a year. Lifestyle changes should start with the rich and powerful.

You know what would’ve been really great for school kids right now? Universal free broadband.

Alan Dershowitz, who was accused of the same crimes as Prince Andrew, is on the BBC trying to silence victims following Ghislaine Maxwell’s conviction. I can’t believe this needs to be said but the BBC should not give a platform to people accused of child sexual abuse.

Don’t label the Delhi Pogrom as “clashes” and “protest”. Call it what it is: sustained and systemic Hindutva violence waged on Indian Muslims, sanctioned by the BJP. The Minister’s response? “Protest is a legitimate means of raising issues.”
