No one is being deported to Rwanda tonight! This government will try again and our movement will stop them again. We cannot rest until all deportation flights are stopped, all the detention centres are closed, all the barbed wire is torn down.

This morning I joined the @RMTunion  picket line at Victoria. Workers told me that many are paid £21K or less, some are on Universal Credit and some have to work 18 Sundays a year for free. All workers deserve decent pay and conditions. Support the strikes.

Thank you to Labour members, trade unions and affiliated organisations in Nottingham East for unanimously reselecting me as your candidate for the next general election. It's the honour of my life to serve my home city, and I promise to keep amplifying your voices in Parliament.

UK temperatures are set to hit a record 40°C. @metoffice  has issued its first ever Red Extreme heat warning. @UKHSA  has declared a national emergency, warning of illness and death. This isn’t “a scorcher”, it’s a symptom of a climate crisis that is already here. 🧵

Liz Truss’ new cabinet is filled with out-of-touch ultra-Thatcherites who have opposed women’s and LGBTQ rights, dismissed the climate emergency and insulted working class people. Here’s a thread of some of the leading stars and their greatest hits 🧵👇🏽

A black kid in poverty won’t be inspired that it’s a black Chancellor letting him go hungry. A brown mum being deported won’t be comforted that it’s a brown Home Secretary tearing her family apart. “Diversity” at the top means nothing if they’re kicking those at the bottom.

Nearly half of Kwasi Kwarteng’s #MiniBudget  tax cuts will go to the richest 5%. If you’re paid £1 million a year, congratulations: you’ll be £55,220 better off. If you’re on £20,000, you’ll save just £157 - 6% of the average energy bill.

France: fully nationalising its biggest energy supplier. Spain: increasing taxes on the super-rich. EU: imposing a windfall tax on the huge profits of energy companies. The UK government’s response to the cost of living crisis: cutting taxes for the 1%.

They’re not u-turning because they’ve “listened”. They’re not even u-turning because they’ve caused the pound to collapse. They’re u-turning because people saw whose interests they serve, and they don't want to be wiped out in the next election. A shambles.

Next month, MPs get a £2,200 pay rise to £84,144 while the country gets a rise in national insurance, energy bills & council tax. We’re already in the top 5% of earners. When I was elected, I pledged to take home £35k and donate the rest to local causes. That won't be changing.

The BJP (Modi’s governing party) is using JCB diggers to bulldoze the homes and shops of Muslims. Boris Johnson posed with JCB diggers on his recent visit to India, but his minister wouldn't say whether he even raised these demolitions with Modi.

If you thought the Policing Bill was bad before, that was nothing compared to the latest version. Priti Patel has quietly added further measures to effectively criminalise protest. These laws belong in a dictatorship, not a democracy. Some of the worst new powers 👇🏽 1/5

You know what would’ve been really great for school kids right now? Universal free broadband.

The UK government has stopped accepting visa applications from all Ukrainians who do not have a close British family member living in Ukraine. This will prevent Ukrainian refugees from coming to the UK, including those with family here. This is completely inhumane.

Matt Hancock didn't declare that his sister’s company was a potential NHS supplier. His local pub landlord got a government contract. Greensill’s app was used by the NHS after they had drinks together. He acted unlawfully by not publishing contracts. Why is he still in a job?

Alan Dershowitz, who was accused of the same crimes as Prince Andrew, is on the BBC trying to silence victims following Ghislaine Maxwell’s conviction. I can’t believe this needs to be said but the BBC should not give a platform to people accused of child sexual abuse.
