This COOP site at Louisville McAlpine Dam along the OH River is a solar powered rain gauge that records precipitation every 15 min. We download the data monthly and send it to NCEI, where it becomes part of the nation's climate record. Learn more here:

Our recent dry spell has resulted in abnormally dry conditions with some locations designated as moderate drought. Warren County has issued a burn ban, to include the use of fireworks. Be sure to check county sources for restrictions on fireworks this Fourth of July weekend.

Update for Taylor County, KY: NWS Storm Survey Team preliminarily confirms a tornado of EF-3 strength (140 mph) near Saloma. Survey is still ongoing. #kywx 

Preliminary surveys indicate EF-1 tornado damage with winds up to 97 mph about 6 miles west of Elizabethtown in Hardin County. Surveys are ongoing. #tornado  #KYwx

Today marks the 48th anniversary of the 1974 Super Outbreak. 21 Tornadoes touchdown in 10 hrs across southern IN/ central KY. The only 2 F5 tornadoes on record for NWS Louisville CWA took place on the this day. 38 of 59 counties the CWA had at least 1 tornado. #INwx  #KYwx

Survey team has arrived in Bowling Green. Tornado damage is at least EF-1, likely higher but we have to look at the details.
