On this day in 1990, a severe weather and tornado outbreak swept through the state dropping 14 tornadoes, golf ball sized hail, and 75 mph wind gusts. One of these tornadoes was an F2 that injured 15 people and amounted to $6 million in damage in and around Ankeny, IA (1/3) ⬇️

One year ago today at 426 pm, an EF4 tornado developed southwest of Winterset and traveled over 70 mi for next 95 min. We remember those that lost their lives on this day and everyone who were impacted by the destructive tornadoes that occurred. #iawx  @madisonemc 

The 74 mph wind gust reported at the Des Moines Airport at 828 pm this evening was the highest non-convective (not associated with a thunderstorm) wind gust since 1970. #iawx

THIS IS JUST ICE ON THE CAMERA. But, it certainly made us look when it showed up on our Situational Awareness Display. Even though many of us want to think Spring after this rough February, this is NOT a thunderstorm, and this is NOT a funnel cloud. It's just ice.
