An upper level heat dome will build over the central United States into Wednesday bringing highs in the 90s to around 105 degrees. Scattered storms are expected across northern South Dakota and west central Minnesota today and tonight. #sdwx  #mnwx

Isolated to scattered storms are expected again by late afternoon and evening over the region. Some of those storms could become severe with large hail and strong winds being the main threat. The highest severe threat exists in the slight risk (yellow) region. #sdwx  #mnwx

Heat index values in the 100s and strong to severe storms are possible for portions of the area through Wednesday. Stay cool and weather aware over the next couple days! High temperatures in the 80s across the board by Friday.

Clouds are typically colder than land, and thus stand out well on Infrared Satellite imagery. Not so this morning! Only the few moving objects in this loop are clouds... the rest is very cold ground (other than portions of the relatively warm Missouri River)! #sdwx  #mnwx 

Stay weather aware this evening. Here's a picture of the tornado north of Miller around 613pm. Storms will continue to have the ability to not only produce large hail and damaging winds, but possibly tornados. #sdwx

A vehicle near Rauville was struck on the windshield by lightning. Fortunately, although the electronics were fried, there were no injuries. Lightning that strikes a vehicle travels along the outside of the metal shell and down to the ground. #sdwx 

Today marks the 11th anniversary of a severe weather event that included one of the most violent tornadoes on record in South Dakota: the Bowdle area EF4 tornado on May 22, 2010. Much more here: #sdwx  #wxhistory
