President Joko and I agreed on bringing even more concrete shape to our cooperation related to measures for tackling the coronavirus, confirmation of the resumption of cross-border travel by businesspeople, cooperation on infrastructure and cooperation (2/4)

towards enhancing our economic resilience, and security and defense cooperation. We also exchanged views on regional affairs, including promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, South China Sea issues, and the situation in North Korea. (3/4)

PM Suga: I welcome today’s signing of the Japan-UK EPA by Foreign Minister Motegi and UK Secretary of State for International Trade Truss. In addition to further promoting trade and investment between Japan and the UK, this agreement will serve as an important foundation (1/2)

for strengthening and developing relations between our countries, which are global strategic partners. From now, we will aim at a swift conclusion and entry into force of this agreement. (2/2)

After his telephone talks with IOC President Bach, PM Abe spoke to the press and explained that the two have agreed that the Tokyo Olympic Games would not be cancelled, and the games will be held by the summer of 2021.

PM Abe: President Trump and I watched sumo, a traditional sport in Japan. It was the first time for a sitting U.S. president to attend a sumo tournament. @POTUS  handed wrestler Asanoyama a newly-created trophy, ?? President's Cup, as a great cheer rang through the stadium.

PM Abe: I heartily welcome Prime Minister of India as he visits ??. I lost no time taking him to the lakeside at Lake Yamanaka, where the autumn leaves are in their glory. After this, I will invite him to my summer house, where only the two of us will dine together.

August 9 marks the 74th year since the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki. The Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony will take place today. A moment of silence for one minute will be observed at 11:02 A.M. in remembrance of the victims and to pray for world peace.

Upon starting his first trip abroad as PM to Vietnam and Indonesia, #PM_Suga  spoke to the press before departure.
