Across the country, parents are putting their children to bed, reading stories, singing lullabies—and in the back of their minds, they’re worried about what might happen tomorrow after they drop their kids off at school, or take them to a grocery store or any other public space.

Forced birth in a country that refuses to protect children from being murdered at school.

Imagine how many children wouldn’t be slaughtered in school if being pro-life was more than just a talking point for Republicans in Congress.

We’re also angry for them. Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook—and ten days after Buffalo—our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies.

I can’t stop thinking about the parents staring at the empty beds… The 14 children who will not be tucked in tonight

It’s long past time for action, any kind of action. And it’s another tragedy—a quieter but no less tragic one—for families to wait another day.

Texas Republican leaders promised action on gun safety after the El Paso shooting. Instead, they passed permitless carry. Our story from June 2021: #TXlege

Grief overwhelms the soul. Children slaughtered. Lives extinguished. Parents’ hearts wrenched. Incomprehensible. I offer prayer and condolence but know that it is grossly inadequate. We must find answers.

My little boy just asked “did the bad guy from the grocery store come back? Is he going to come to our house?” *Now the MAGA-Republicans will mock my son or say I’m making this up as they did when he asked about Buffalo. But these are the questions parents are fielding tonight.

May God bless the memory of the victims, and in the words of Scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.
