I have been frequently speaking out against the appalling human rights abuses targeted against the Uyghur people by the Chinese Government. In Parliament, I called on the Government to ensure that no UK businesses are profiting from what is happening in Xinjiang.

@tompeter  @ReutersIn  the city streets and countryside, Communist Party propaganda urges loyalty and ethnic unity. A billboard, showing Chinese President Xi Jinping among a crowd of smiling Uyghur children, stands in an industrial park outside the Kashgar prison:

A bipartisan Australian bill would ban all goods from China's Xinjiang, where forced Uyghur Muslim labor is pervasive, as well as imports from anywhere that use forced labor. Businesses have a duty to ensure clean supply chains. Ignorance is no excuse.

On a show tour of China's Xinjiang region, minders are always close at hand, and the visitors are treated to embarrassing spectacles of Uyghur Muslims singing and dancing while their unseen compatriots are detained en masse for forced indoctrination.

The program, called the Uyghur Wellness Initiative, is still in its infancy; to date, it has paired only a few dozen Uyghurs with mental health professionals.

Self-proclaimed @KingJames  is quick to dox a police officer who saved someone from being stabbed to death with a knife. But he still won’t say a word about China’s Uyghur genocide. You can call yourself “King” all you want, but you’re really just Xi’s court jester.

Chinese Communist Party has already incarcerated 1m Uyghur Muslims into "re-education" camps. Today a new report pointed to horrific, draconian measures used to suppress Uyghur birthrates, incl. IUD insertions & sterilisation. Today I asked the UK govt how it plans to respond:

The Chinese government keeps talking about not wanting "outsiders 'meddling' in Myanmar’s internal affairs" -- meaning the junta can shoot protesters at will (and Beijing can detain Uyghur Muslims at will, crush Hong Kong's freedoms, etc). #AutocratsMantra

The new Mulan movie was filmed in the region where China has Uyghur internment camps and there are “special thanks” for a Xinjiang government agency in the credits. @Disney , can you show us your human rights due diligence report?

President Trump’s admission that he is looking the other way and enabling China’s brutal repression of the Uyghur people and other Muslim minorities in order to ink a trade deal is appalling.

Today President Trump signed into law our #UyghurHumanRightsPolicyAct  which holds #China  accountable for grotesque human rights violations.

With my signature, the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act, which imposes sanction on foreign individuals and entities responsible for human rights abuses in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region, goes to the White House.
