@DavidWMcDuff The point is that despite the cries of "But Tolstoy!, But Tchaikovsky! " a strain of chauvinist hatred of Ukrainians and other non-Russians runs throughout Russian culture to which even those persecuted are not immune. Or should we ignore his vile hatred for some reason?
