Every Democrat who is committed to ending the Jim Crow Filibuster should start calling it the Jim Crow Filibuster. Define it truthfully, and then let senators take their stand.

Grace, an indispensable component of leadership, is in short supply these days. Hank Aaron defined it. Professionally, personally, in every way. Grew up in the hate of the Jim Crow south, swam through it to reach an unreachable milestone, teaching us all how to rise above it.

"Virtually unknown outside the states of the 'Old Confederacy,' runoff elections were designed under Jim Crow laws in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to blunt the voting power of Black voters. This time, it didn’t work." via @USATOpinion

Norfolk is more separated by race now than it was in the Jim Crow era. For the past year, a team of The Virginian-Pilot's reporters have studied the disparities that continue to divide and disadvantage people of color living in one of the state's largest cities.

@hmcghee  makes a brilliant point, citing @AJentleson . We should stop calling the filibuster “the filibuster.” We should call it “the Jim Crow filibuster.” Which is true to history, and may help with building the courage to scrap it.

"The moderate wing of the Democratic Party has got their history wrong about where the filibuster comes from. It is a Jim Crow era relic," Heather McGhee says. "It's one of the many ways that structural racism is holding back the hands of progress. Not just for people of color"

Kamala Harris’s mom is Asian Indian. Her dad Donald Harris is by his own account descended from one of the largest slave planters in Jamaica. In what sense then can she claim the African American experience of being descended from slaves and subject to segregation and Jim Crow?

Let’s guarantee that every citizen has equal representation in our government. And end partisan gerrymandering, so that all voters have the power to choose their politicians. And if all this takes eliminating the filibuster—a Jim Crow relic––then that’s what we should do.

Confederate statues weren’t built during the Confederacy, they were built during the Jim Crow to incite fear. Jon Stewart explains:

The House Democrats are a mob of liars and miscreants who seek to overthrow an elected president.  And they’ve the gall to wrap themselves in the Constitution while they eviscerate it.  The party of slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow rears its tyrannical head yet again.

Most confederate monuments were erected during Jim Crow era. They weren't put up for history, they were meant to terrorize black people.

Beto says law enforcement is “the new Jim Crow.” This kind of extreme rhetoric divides us on racial lines & inflames hatred. Vast majority of police officers are brave, honorable, and risk their lives keeping us safe; it’s wrong to smear them as racists.

Calling us "animals" has been the language to justify slavery, Jim Crow and all manner of injustice. Dehumanization and racism go together
