The revelation that a juror -- who helped convict Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd -- had participated in a march in Washington, D.C., months before the trial is unlikely to affect that guilty verdict, experts said.

Weeks away from learning his sentence for the murder of George Floyd, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is seeking a new trial, arguing that the overwhelming publicity surrounding the case deprived him of due process.

“The truth is that Derek Chauvin being held accountable for killing George Floyd is the exception – not the rule,” said AIUSA’s Executive Director@dpaulobrien  on the Derek Chauvin verdict.

"I believe that after you look at everything, the verdict will stand because the jurors base the verdict on the evidence," says Ben Crump, lead attorney for George Floyd's family, on Derek Chauvin's lawyers filing a motion for a new trial.
