Top down, authoritarian regimes like this Govt despise accountability, transparency and democracy. They ‘took back control’ yes, for themselves and their vested interests. Not for the 99%. That leaves a clear path for any opposition to tread and differentiate itself with voters

If youre struggling to outflank a big spending tory Govt then GO BIG on Democratic renewal: our voting system, a constitution, democracy in the work place, energy, water, the Bank of England; planning - virtually every sphere of our public existence needs radical overhaul

@hardball  Blog: Former Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice, a Republican, suggested it’s time to “move on” from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. It’s foolish for anyone to believe the attack on Americandemocracy started or ended on Jan. 6.

And if you want to know why the planet is burning; why this Govt can get away with its greenwash despite the public’s demand for system change; why our financial system can refuse to #Divest  from fossil fuel comps - its because our democracy is failing us & needs renewal

Why are Democrats afraid to use their power? Americandemocracy depends on it

Ignoring #Beijing 's threats of retaliation; forced evictions in #Afghanistan ; sham trial over school attack in #Cameroon ; and continued crack down on pro-democracy protesters in #Eswatini . Today's @HRWDailyBrief

If anyone had a right to question whether our democracy was worth redeeming, it was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Because in the face of billy clubs and lynchings, poll taxes and literacy tests, he never gave in to violence, never waved a traitorous flag or gave up on our country.

Canadians are deeply disturbed and saddened by the attack on democracy in the United States, our closest ally and neighbour. Violence will never succeed in overruling the will of the people. Democracy in the US must be upheld - and it will be.

In 2016, when Trump won PA, MI, and WI by a handful of votes, the election system worked just great. Now that he's losing, it's a "fraud" and they're "stealing the election." This is how demagogues destroy faith in democracy and move us toward authoritarianism. Count every vote!

I want to speak directly to the Black women in our country. Thank you. You are too often overlooked, and yet are asked time and again to step up and be the backbone of our democracy. We could not have done this without you.

Joe Biden will win the popular vote by over 4 million votes. The Democratic nominee for president has now won the popular vote in 7 out of the last 8 elections. One person, one vote. Democracy must rule. Yes. We should abolish the electoral college.

Let's be clear. This election won't be over when Trump says it's over. It will be over after every vote is counted. That includes mail-in ballots postmarked on Election Day, as well as military ballots. This is a democracy. Whether Trump likes it or not, we count every vote.

Trump isn't running against @JoeBiden . He's running against our democracy. Recognize this threat. Call it what it is. Turn out in overwhelming numbers. Let's stop him, together.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to the end, through her cancer, with unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals. That’s how we remember her. But she also left instructions for how she wanted her legacy to be honored. My statement:

No, Mr. President. We're not delaying the election. The American people are sick and tired of your authoritarianism, your lies, your racism. On November 3, 2020 democracy will prevail and your disastrous presidency will end. Bye-bye.

So much news today, but don't overlook the voting debacle happening right now in Georgia. This is a dire wakeup call for November - long lines, broken machines. It is a national outrage that undermines the legitimacy of our democracy.
