This is huge. ⁦ @tammybaldwin ⁩ and I begged and begged the Trump Administration to use the Defense Production Act to address the pandemic. Trump refused. Biden is now using the DPA to dramatically ramp up vaccine production.

The UAE says it will supply its first locally manufactured air defense missiles to German security contractor Rheinmetall, as the Gulf state expands the production and export of military technology

Trump used the Defense Production Act to crack down on hoarding, limit exports of medical goods, and increase production of critical supplies. Now, Biden wants to expand the law to speed up vaccination efforts.

Asked if Biden would consider using Defense Production Act for semiconductors shortage, @petereharrell  told me: “I don't think we're here to talk about how we would use the DPA on any particular supply chain at this point” but “all tools are on the table for this administration.”

They stayed afloat through 16 games despite shaky goaltending, subpar production from 2nd & 3rd best players, makeshift defense and no 4th line. Aside from Boston, no clear No. 2 club in East. No reason Penguins can’t be it.

AZ says in testimony it's benefited from use of Defense Production Act: "Since the Defense Production Act Title I priority rating was put in place, our suppliers have not communicated any significant delays of materials or equipment." Doesn't specify dose # if/when granted EUA

Key takeaway: Impact of decades of stunningly bone-headed #offshoring-friendly  policies that have gutted US #semiconductor  #manufacturing  won't be fixed quickly. P.S. Using Defense Production Act "more aggressively" no cure-all, either: #tech  #economy

Pfizer’s plant here employs 2,800 full time employees/contractors and produces 1,200 metric tons of active pharmaceutical ingredients. WH says Defense Production Act has been used to get component parts Pfizer said it needed to ramp up COVID vaccine production

Reports in @FT  of China seeking to curb exports of rare earth minerals to U.S. can be seen as a sign that Xi intends to play hardball. U.S. lags, badly, in domestic production of materials used in assorted defense products and in commercial products like EVs

He didn’t want people to panic?? What exactly would have been “panicky” about mobilizing the defense production act to mobilize mass testing? How about asking all to mask? Getting PPE to first responders? HE KNEW THIS WAS NEEDED. Instead, Trump lied and SO MANY people died.

I’m calling on the Federal Government to nationalize the medical supply chain. The Federal Government should immediately use the Defense Production Act to order companies to make gowns, masks and gloves. Currently, states are competing against other states for supplies.

I only signed the Defense Production Act to combat the Chinese Virus should we need to invoke it in a worst case scenario in the future. Hopefully there will be no need, but we are all in this TOGETHER!

Let’s try this again, @realDonaldTrump : Hospitals are already running out of ventilators and beds. Nurses are using bandanas as masks. If you’ve already ordered more with the Defense Production Act, tell us now. If you haven’t, you’re failing to lead and failing Americans.

Testing. Masks. Ventilators. It’s not a mystery – we need many more. The President must invoke the Defense Production Act to immediately mass produce and coordinate distribution of these vital supplies. #FamiliesFirst

The Defense Production Act is in full force, but haven’t had to use it because no one has said NO! Millions of masks coming as back up to States.

I do not understand the reluctance to use the federal Defense Production Act to manufacture ventilators. If not now, when?

The President must immediately use the powers of the Defense Production Act to mass produce and coordinate distribution of critical medical supplies & personal protective equipment. There is not a day to lose. #FamiliesFirst

Let's be clear - there is no evidence President Trump has invoked the Defense Production Act and ordered a single manufacturer to start producing masks and protective gear. This decision is unconscionable. It will allow the virus to spread. It will get people killed.
