Even without fake stats, Cuban health outcomes are pretty good for a country as poor as Cuba but that seems like a very weak justification for an economic system that has made Cuba poor.

Ian initially knocked out power to a few provinces in western Cuba, but problems compounded and the power grid collapsed nationwide, affecting 11 million people, the first time a total blackout has happened in living memory. SEE MORE >>>

Dissidents against tyranny from Cuba to Hong Kong fly the American flag, because they recognize it is a symbol of freedom. Meanwhile, Americans who despise the American flag are peculiarly silent when it comes to dictatorial oppression of those dissenters. Strange.

My mom died today. Joining my dad who passed away 40 days ago. She was a pretty remarkable lady. An immigrant from Cuba, she lived with the Oblate Sisters of Providence in Baltimore during college. Here (on the left) she is in Cuba in the 1930s.
