@NkalaSizo  Please do some reading on vaccine market inequities. Producers are reluctant to sell to lower-income countries. Even COVAX, with a large budget, finds it difficult to obtain supplies, because vaccine producers prefer to sell to wealthy countries. This is well documented.

Covax was meant to supply the world with vaccines. In many lower-income places, the doses have already run out.

Out of 80 nations that received jabs through Covax, 40 are on the brink of running out of doses #coronavirus  #vaccines  #WHO  #pandemic

According to a White House fact sheet, the Philippines is among countries listed to receive 41 million doses through the COVAX global vaccine sharing facility.

Vaccine shortages are affecting countries who rely on the World Health Organization’s COVAX program to distribute them.

The longer health workers, teachers and social workers remain unprotected against COVID-19, the greater the risk to their health, and the health, safety and opportunities for children. Wealthy countries must share available vaccines through COVAX now.

@MattHancockMP  dismisses idea of jab-matching, where for every dose given in UK, one is donated to Covax, saying 1st duty is to protect people in UK. But to protect people here we have to vaccinate people in poorer countries *now* to reduce risk of new variants being imported

Australia is committed to supporting the Philippines’ access to vaccine. I am very pleased that 2,030,000 doses of AstraZanecca vaccines from the COVAXFacility arrived today in Manila.

News: The Trump administration will not join a global effort to develop, manufacture and equitably distribute a coronavirus vaccine, in part because the World Health Organization is involved. Details on the Covax decision from @yabutaleb7  and me.
