Thailand was the biggest mover in The Economist Intelligence Unit's 2019 Democracy Index, rising 38 places in the global rankings to become a "flawed democracy" rather than a "hybrid regime". #BangkokPost  #Thailand 

Globally, democracy is in retreat. In 2019, The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index fell to the lowest average since it began in 2006. Just 22 out of 167 countries attained “full democracy” classification.

Democracy is in danger around the world, despite political engagement being at an all time high. Robert Guest, our foreign editor, examines this year's Democracy Index, which is compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

India fell 9 places to 42 on the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Democracy Index. Among the issues responsible were vigilantism and violence against dissenting voices.

The Economist “Intelligence Unit” admits it was too pessimistic about the prospects for the UK after the Brexit referendum. But blames business/consumers for failing to understand the full implications of leaving the EU. So companies kept on investing, people spending.
