Trump to attend NATO meeting in Britain early December: White House
The NATO official said that NATO will continue to support the Afghan peace process, and as part of the peace process, “we stand ready to further adjust our presence, in line with our conditions-based approach.”
Referring to the reduction in the number of US forces in Afghanistan, a NATO official said, “NATO’s position has not changed. We are carrying out our train/advise/assist mission in its current configuration, with a Headquarters in Kabul and four regional commands.”
The smaller number of U.S. troops — down from roughly 13,000 a year ago — will continue to support NATO’s training and advising mission, and a separate counterterrorism mission, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan said.
