Notable development in 2020 California ballot measure world: Backers of proposed new tax on high-earners & corporations... $$ for schools... have scrapped their initiative, after new fiscal analysis warned possible #cabudget  general fund hit if payees worked around the system.

Tough morning for a cabbie: as I arrive in San Diego for a quick speaking event, cab driver sighs when I tell him I’m only going a short distance. He had waited for THREE hours for his first fare — me. “Uber,” he says grumpily.

Rep. Duncan Hunter's announcement that he will resign his #CA50  seat "shortly after the holidays" means there will be NO special election to fill the remainder of his current term.

The fact that Hunter could mean anything is "shortly after the holidays" seems likely to ramp up pressure to just leave it open. But again, crazier things have happened...
