Day 1 at Indy is a wrap, and it was…well, pretty damn weird. Here’s what drivers said about the vibe with no fans:

Guy in the middle looks familiar. Maybe seen him on TV before.

For those asking: Not sure what happened to Bowman. He's P14 now. Maybe someone can tell me.

NASCAR tested out the proposed Auto Club Speedway short track on iRacing first — and it worked. @Jordan_Bianchi  has more on this here:

If my memory is correct, NASCAR went from 2002 until 2019 without running a race with no "natural" cautions (caution other than stage break/competition). Happened twice last year I think. This would be the third one since 2002 if if stays green for 22 more laps.

Was Richmond a good race? 44.3% of you said Yes. That is the lowest of nine Richmond races in the poll. (Previous low: 46%, last year's fall race. Highest is 85%, the 2016 spring race.)

Some schedule news from me and @Jordan_Bianchi : The All-Star Race will move to Texas next year, but the track will lose a points race. And that clears room for NASCAR to take a Cup race to COTA in Austin. Story:

NASCAR just released a photo of the garage pull rope that was fashioned into a noose at Talladega.

BREAKING: The Confederate flag has just been BANNED from all NASCAR events and properties, effective immediately.

I’ll say this one time: Absolutely NOT a Jussie Smollett situation. Do not blame Bubba Wallace. He never saw it and wasn’t the one to report it. He was TOLD about it by NASCAR and reacted like anyone else would.

Apologies for not knowing who originally created this image, but it has been making the rounds on Twitter and turned out to be correct. You can see in the left photo the rope was in noose form — apparently as a handle — last year and then cut for evidence Sunday.

Ryan Newman walks out of the hospital under his own power 42 hours after a crash that left many fearing the worst. He was listed in serious condition Monday night, now holding hands with his daughters. “Miracle” seems like a cliche, but I’m at a loss for how else to describe it.
