San Francisco Chronicle columnist and podcast host covering life in one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Once rode every Muni bus line in one day.
This is what local journalism is all about. Kudos to Alexandria Bordas @CrossingBordas and Cynthia Dizikes@cdizikes for this powerful story about the "prince of Wine Country" and the women he reportedly assaulted on his climb up the political ladder.
School board member Alison Collins is suing the cash-strapped school district for $12 million and five of her fellow board members for $3 million apiece. Read the latest on the never-ending SF school board drama from @jilltucker .
My latest: Affordable housing in San Francisco often takes six years and $700,000 per unit to build. A new project on Bryant Street has vastly lowered both those numbers, but trades unions don’t want any more like it. So what will City Hall do?
So actually Collins appears to be suing the school district and the city for $12 million each. Plus $15 million for each of the five school board members who removed her as Vice President. So she’s seeking a total of $99 million.
“Wow. What a fantastic, compelling story that takes the reader deep behind-the-scenes into the life of Pixar and the birth of ‘Toy Story,'” the judge wrote. Congratulations @peterhartlaub ! 🎉🎉🎉
BREAKING: California will ditch its color tiers and reopen the economy fully on June 15 providing nothing goes awry, Gavin Newsom announced at City College today. The mask mandate will continue indefinitely.

SCOOP! My latest: Gavin Newsom wasn't the only one to attend a fancy birthday dinner at the French Laundry last month. San Francisco Mayor London Breed joined a socialite's dinner there the next night -- and banned indoor dining in SF three days later.
Powerful image of the protest in Santa Cruz this morning. Mayor Justin Cummings and Police Chief Andrew Mills took a knee in solidarity. (📷: Shmuel Thaler.)
Wow. The is calling the race to recall Brock Turner sentencing Judge Aaron Persky. He is the first California judge to be recalled since 1932.
My latest: Jeffrey Choate was trained in prison to fight fires, but now that he’s been released, he’s not allowed to become a firefighter because of his criminal record. Even as wildfires rage in his home state. It’s a ridiculous Catch-22 that must end.
Do you know a couple who got engaged late afternoon today at Sutro Baths? Photographer Denise Cotton took this magical photo (look at the heart in the rock!) and would like to give it to the happy pair. #TotalSF
Good news! Just confirmed with the mayor's office it is OK under the shut down order to drive to hiking trails, beaches, etc., to walk and get fresh air. You don't have to just walk around your neighborhood. Also, bicycling for exercise is fine under the order. #coronavirus
My column on winning the election for mayor. She #SanFranciscobecomes the city's first woman of color to win the seat and just its second woman mayor ever. Of the country's 15 biggest cities, all have male mayors -- until now.
