“A black reporter from CNN was arrested while legally covering the protests in Minneapolis,” the network noted, referring to Omar Jimenez. “A white reporter also on the ground was not.”

@OmarJimenezWBAL  is being praised for having poise & he is very worthy of that praise. But, did he really have a choice? Do most black folks have a choice in moments like that? Is it safe to voice even justified concern when authority figures have decided you are a problem?

@chrislhayes : “There is no plan from the President...Not the pandemic. Not the economic crisis. Not the societal inequities. Not predatory policing. Not the protests in Minnesota. Nothing except to make it all worse.”

‘George Floyd was murdered by an out-of-control police officer. When will it end?…. Decade after decade after decade. When will it end? This time must be different.’ — @RepJeffries  on the House floor

Minnesota police arrested CNN reporter Omar Jimenez and his crew live on-air early Friday morning after they had clearly identified themselves as press and repeatedly offered to move. The crew was released later in the morning after Minnesota’s governor personally intervened

Police officials claim they made the arrest of the CNN crew because the reporters allegedly did not move when asked to. Live footage, however, shows Omar Jimenez, a reporter for CNN who is black, politely telling police officers that they were complying

With cities burning, police murdering, billionaires looting, one in four jobless, 100,000 dead, journalists being arrested, and a president calling for the shuttering of media, the curbing of voting, and violence against citizens, it is clear: America, to endure, must be remade.
