Brett Kavanaugh’s deputy from the White House is deciding what documents are turned over to the Senate. This person does NOT work for the nonpartisan National Archives or the Bush Library. He works for President Bush in a personal capacity. This is unprecedented & unacceptable.
It is fine for people to say "oh Thatcher was misquoted/taken out of context" when she said "there is no such thing as society".
But what Johnson is doing is distancing himself from the widely-held *impression* of Thatcherism created by that quote, which is what makes it notable
I suspect this may hasten some businesses to shut doors & lay off staff, now that they know they'll at least get some $. It's likely many of them would've anyway but this might make it happen faster. I spose the govt will argue it will keep more people at home & not out..
Not really. If you're still on the books of an eligible business - stood down rather than sacked, or still working - you'll get $1500 a fortnight from the govt, even if that's more than you earn now. That's an incentive to keep the low-paid connected to the company.
