The number of new cases in #Oklahoma  hit a new record high yesterday - this is the states where President Trump held his famous rally on 20 June. In the city of Tulsa, that happens to be where most #coronavirus  cases have been recorded.

Now over half (26) US states show a higher ratio of positive tests in the past week than cumulatively, implying many will record big rises in cases. Six states saw record new highs for daily cases on 7 July: Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, Wyoming

@Solwayo1  UN estimates there are only 62,000 people over the age of 80 in Zimbabwe, and the fatality rate is 20% in that age group. Can't see how you get to 50-100k deaths. 50k is about 5 months of normal annual deaths - no country is experiencing anything like that

This is very good work by Reuters (I only managed half this many countries on testing data a month ago).. and I felt like the guy in the photo when I got PCR tested

@MihrThakar  @KenGenKenyaP  @AleckyJamesh  @EuniceBonyoew ! So we can stop focusing on the coronavirus or the next Kenyan elections .. excellent :-)

#Ghana 's currency in the last few minutes has just become the cheapest in Africa - (at GHS5.745/$) - based on our real effective exchange rate model. Despite a current account covered by FDI and double-digit interest rate #cedi

This is the most remarkable story about education. Kaduna state (central/northern #Nigeria ) tests its teachers, finds 80% not capable, sacks over 20,000. Hikes pay by a third to improve quality. Dynamic governor determined to force change

This seems a bit embarrassing for the international observers who said it was largely free and fair #Kenya

Why is Hungary trying to adopt an overtime law? Because it, and other Central Europeans have run out of labour - as we’ve been flagging since 2014. Plus Hungary wants to restrict immigration. Without extra people, it needs existing people to work longer hours

Ahh .. it’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these

Why are there more deaths from #coronavirus  in Italy than South Korea? Our best guess is because 7.5% of Italians are over 80 years old vs 3.6% in Korea. Chinese data show this is the most vulnerable age group. Big implications for Japan, Greece, Germany, + much of EU #COVID19

So even Saudis are now paying 54 US cents for a litre of fuel. Nigeria's subsidised price of NGN145 is equivalent to 40 US cents per litre. Yet Saudi produces 5 times more oil than Nigeria and exports 27 times more per person

Wow. Complete collapse of foreign direct investment into Russia since MH-17. Worse than 2008-09
