In Florida, Miami-Dade and Broward public schools are not reopening in person for now. Neither are Catholic schools. But some private schools are, despite the high prevalence of the coronavirus, w/ @viaSimonRomero  @GiuliaMcDonnell 

Florida will no longer quarantine travelers from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, per a new executive order from @RepDeSantis . In practice: Screenings at Miami International Airport had stopped since late June, an airport spokesman has said.

“We’re in a timeline limbo. The end doesn’t seem to be in sight, and we have no hope that it will end.”

Florida reported 4,752 new coronavirus cases on Monday, and 73 new deaths. (It's unclear to me if the numbers have been affected by the closure of many testing sites starting on Friday because of the tropical storm.)

Florida reported 5,446 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, and 245 new deaths. The number of deaths, if I'm not mistaken, is the third-highest for a single day.

NEW: Florida has surpassed 500,000 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic. The state reported 5,409 new cases on Wednesday, and 225 new deaths.

Florida reported 7,650 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, and 120 new deaths.

A young man in a mask just interrupted Gov. Ron DeSantis’s coronavirus news conference in Miami: “You are misleading the public. You are blaming the protesters. You guys have no plan, and you are doing nothing. Shame on you!"

The city of Jacksonville, Fla., has just announced that masks will be mandatory indoors and in public places where social distancing is not possible.

Florida tried to black out death records from medical examiners that have never been kept secret before. They messed up the redaction and we could read them anyway - and got a window into the many ways the unrelenting coronavirus has found to cause death.

Florida is closing *all* of its state-managed coronavirus testing sites at 5 p.m. on Thursday because of the potential tropical storm. They will be closed perhaps until *next Wednesday.* That's...a long time.
