Another night of protests against police violence in Washington, D.C.

A new report by a U.S. Treasury Department internal watchdog found that the IRS failed to audit tens of thousands of wealthy Americans who never filed tax returns between 2014 and 2016, and who collectively owe up to tens of billions in unpaid taxes.

Bloomberg News reports that the watchdog report identified 879,000+ high-income people who had failed to file taxes from 2014 to 2016; together, they owed an estimated $45.7 billion. Investigators found that the IRS had not audited roughly 42% of those individuals.
