After a months-long consultation process with York Region community members to rename a Vaughan high school, a bitter dispute has led to accusations of anti-Semitism and resulting allegations of racism.

Ontario is reporting 2,662 new cases of COVID-19 and 87 new deaths. 779 of the new cases are in Toronto, 542 are in Peel and 228 are in York Region.

David Sherman, a Board of Trustees member within the York RegionDistrict School Board, is alleging “certain groups” in the community collected name submissions from outside the country to improperly bolster support for naming the school after Nalayeh.

The new cases reported today include 779 in Toronto, 542 in Peel Region, 228 in York Region, 128 in Waterloo Region, 188 in Windsor-Essex County and 102 in Halton Region.

#BREAKING : Ontario is reporting 2,655 new COVID-19 cases today and 89 more deaths. The most new cases are in Toronto (925), Peel Region (473) and York Region (226). 395 people remain in ICU.

In York Region over the weekend, public health inspected more than 70 businesses, focusing its COVID-19 enforcement on big box retail and grocery stores. The inspections resulted in 11 charges.

York Region shared a list of retailers fined over the last week for violations of Ontario's Reopening Ontario Act, among them major pharmacy and grocery locations.

Some regions of New York are closer to reopening than others. Currently, no region meets all the requirements necessary to reopen safely and securely. There is a lot of work to do.
