The dreaded cerebral venous thrombosis (CVST) occurs ~4/100,000 people with covid, many-fold higher than has been reported with vaccines (the type with thrombocytopenia, aka VITT)

Cerebral vein thrombosis (CVST) w/ J&J vaccine in 6 young women (ages 18-48) among 6.8 million dosed follows the pattern of Astra Zeneca (222 cases in 34 million of very rare clotting events), implicating adenovirus vector link @HelenBranswell  @statnews

Clotting events related to the Astra Zeneca vaccine in 280,000 people in Denmark & Norway, just published @bmj_latest  Excess rate (still rare): venous thrombosis (11/1000,000 vaccinations; cerebral venous (CVST) (2.5/100,000 vaccinations) Benefit >> risk

A 48-year-old woman presented with a 3-day history of fatigue and abdominal pain 2 weeks after receiving the Ad26.COV2.S vaccine. She had a low platelet count and was found to have cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and clots in the right hepatic and splenic veins.

There's only 1 of these so far, which, in itself, is remarkable. VITT (vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia), risk < 1/100,000 Subtype: CVST (cerebral venous thrombosis) Risk: ~1/500,000 to 1/million w/ AZ , J&J vaccines vs Benefit: 90+/100 for covid protection

Multiple new reports of the very rare type of blood clots w/ Astra Zeneca's vaccine: —UK: 30 cases, 24 cerebral venous thrombosis, 8 other with low platelets (among 18 million doses) —Netherlands: 5 cases (among ~400K vaccines) —Australia: 1 case via @kakape  and @normanswan
