An Afghan airstrike in response to a wave of attacks by the Taliban killed 12 children in a religious school in the northern province of Takhar, local officials said

MoD states "12 Taliban including several of their commanders" were killed in an Afghan Air Force strike in Takhar last night, probe into civilian casualty reports launched. These Taliban were involved in killing "a number of police" 2 days before, MoD said: Afghanistan's TOLOnews

For 33 years, takhar'>Darsh Takhar has cared for patients who hover on the edge between life and death. One of the hardest moments in her decades-long career came just last week when she held the hand of a man — a hospital co-worker — who lay dying of COVID-19.

As of Monday, her hospital had 12 COVID-19 patients in the ICU. Takhar said it’s unnerving to see so many sedated patients on ventilators. "It’s like something out of a horror movie and we’re just waiting for them to wake up.”

An Afghan official says eight children, ages 10 to 15, were killed by a roadside bomb near their school in the northeastern Takhar province. The provincial police chief says the bomb’s intended target was most likely Afghan security forces.
