President Trump warned those who tried to topple a statue of President Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Park across the street from the White House. He also says he’ll issue an executive order to protect monuments.
To show solidarity with protesters, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had the words "Black Lives Matter" painted on the street that leads to the White House. She also commissioned the square in front of Lafayette Park as Black Lives Matter Plaza.
