After years of failed efforts, the Shinnecock Indian Nation is hoping to build a casino on their reservation in the Hamptons, in hopes it can pull them out of poverty and fund social programs. Their wealthy neighbors, however, aren’t as enthused.

The Shinnecock Indian Nation will break ground for a marijuana-cultivation facility on its Southampton reservation in the coming weeks, a leader said, as the tribe eyes the role of recreational marijuana sales for future economic development.

The Hamptons Neighborhood Group, which says it has about 200 members, hopes to leverage community opposition to a casino proposed for the Shinnecock Indian Nation reservation and work with the tribe and state to locate another viable site.

A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit by three Shinnecock Indian Nation fishermen who accused state and local law enforcement of a "pattern of racially motivated criminal prosecutions" against them for exercising their aboriginal fishing rights.

The developer of the Shinnecock Indian Nation's proposed new casino in the Hamptons says the plan is to break ground this summer. And the tribe has other plans after it is completed. @McLoganTV  has the exclusive details.
