NEW: Premier Ford announces York region will join Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel region, in a modified Stage 2 restriction phase at 12:01 am Monday. "I hate doing this," Ford said.

#BREAKING  : Gyms, indoor dining rooms, and movie theatres will be closed in York Region for 28 days starting Monday as the area joins Toronto, Peel Region, and Ottawa in a modified version of Stage 2.

Saturday's new numbers come as Ontario announced that tighter restrictions will take effect in long-term care homes in York Region on Monday to match those already in effect in homes across Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Region.

#BREAKING  Premier Doug Ford says the decision to enforce modified Stage 2 restrictions in York Region did not come easy. Effective Monday, Oct. 19, York will join Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa in Stage 2.

Ontario has 625 new cases of COVID-19, landing between Monday's number of 700 and Tuesday's number of 554. Toronto (288), Peel (97), Ottawa (64), York Region (41). 62% of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40.

Another jump in COVID-19 cases in Ontario with 478 in the last 24 hours. That's up 53 from Monday, and the highest since May 2. 153 are in Toronto, 95 in Peel Region (Toronto's western neighbour) and 90 in Ottawa. More than 2 in 3 are people under age 40.
