French energy giant Total says it is writing off $9.3B worth of oilsands assets in Alberta and cancelling its membership in the Calgary-based Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

BREAKING: TC Energy Corp has just announced it will proceed with construction on the Keystone XL oilsands pipeline project. The line would carry 830,000 barrels of crude from Alberta to the U.S. Midwest each day. A previous @CBCNews  story on the project:

Canada has world's 3rd largest oil reserves & is the 4th largest producer, 5th largest exporter, of natural gas Northern Gateway scrapped Energy East cancelled TransMountain stalled Coastal GasLink stalled Teckoilsands project withdrawn Keystone XL vetoed (by Obama) Madness.

Hitting the trifecta of hypocrisy: High-flying Trudeau-appointed Senator Mary Coyle advocates drastic climate action, including phasing out the oilsands, while billing taxpayers $17,000 in flights. #cdnpoli

CPC MP Shannon Stubbs says if the federal govt. rejects the #TeckFrontier  oilsands mine "Albertans will perceive that as a rejection of Alberta from Canada - that is where the vast majority of my constituents are at." Stubbs calls it a political decision and a "defining moment"

Conservatives have been asking these questions for 3 years now: How is it acceptable that a foreign lobby group can simply deposit cash into a bank account of a Canadian politician? Who else is being paid cash to oppose the oilsands?

Alberta is now in reverse gear and roaring backwards. Back to the day when a high-school dropout could earn $100,000 a year driving a truck for an oilsands giant. Back to a time when no one had even thought of climate change. All delusion.

On page 34 of the UCP platform, read Kenney’s plans to replace NDP climate strategy: —no carbon tax —no oilsands emissions cap —coal plants OK past 2030 —weaker industrial emitter regs —no more interventions to encourage wind, solar & other renewable power

Oops: The “dirtiest oil in North America” is not produced in Canada, but just outside Los Angeles, where the Placerita oil field generates about twice the level of upstream emissions as Canadianoilsands production #abpoli  #cdnpoli
