Negotiations for Usman vs. Masvidal are done, per sources. All sides agreed to terms. Usman is en route to LV; Masvidal landed earlier. Once at the hotel, they’ll have to take a COVID test and then quarantine while awaiting results. If negative, they’ll fly to AD likely tomorrow.

There are active negotiations ongoing to book Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal as next week’s UFC 251 main event, sources say, and I’m told the sides believe there is a now a path to make it happen. Not done, but a promising development. More:

Sources confirm Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal negotiations are currently underway as the potential new main event for #UFC251  Just as caution: No deal is done yet, no contracts signed. But talks are ongoing. First reported by @arielhelwani  #UFC

The fight got finalized yesterday afternoon, and Dana White just confirmed it to @bokamotoESPN  . They tried to originally make it a couple of weeks ago but were far apart on numbers. Then they tried to book Usman v Covington but negotiations stalled with Covington.

The Kamaru Usman v Colby Covington 170 title fight is far from done, multiple sources say. In fact, negotiations have hit a snag and UFC is now looking at other options, sources say. Those options include a different welterweight title fight and/or a different main event.

Colby Covington explains how ‘hostage’ negotiations kept him from fighting Kamaru Usman at #UFC244  "They didn’t give me a negotiation. They said ‘take this or we’ll just move onto someone else’. That’s not negotiating. That’s bad business."

Final thought re: the MSG main event saga that’s still developing: Usman v Covington negotiations botched. Press reset. Start over. Live to fight another day. Book it later. Book Diaz v Masvidal as the MSG main. People’s fight. They are super hot. It’s there. Everyone wins.

This Usman-Covington-Masvidal drama reminds me of the situation ahead of UFC 205 when it was Eddie Alvarez vs Conor McGregor. Negotiations hit a wall and suddenly Khabib had a bout agreement to fight Eddie instead.
