#SundayMorning Passage We look back at three notable figures who left us this week: Pianist and educator Leon Fleisher; journalist and author Pete Hamill; and former national security advisor to two presidents, Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft

Washington's last great "honest broker"? My colleague @SpiegelPeter 's great obituary of Brent Scowcroft, the very model of a national security advisor.

Brent Scowcroft was the best national security advisor the US has ever had. His "realist school of thought," cognizant of America's strengths & weaknesses, is finally making its return after decades of "counterproductive efforts." @DanDePetris

"The fact that they didn't choose to send a national security advisor or someone else suggests they are trying to come as close as possible to China's red line but don't want to cross it," he added.

I am pleased to announce that, effective 4/9/18, will be my new National Security Advisor. I am very thankful for the service of General H.R. McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend. There will be an official contact handover on 4/9.

Stunning: Biden, just days before leaving office, personally directed the unmasking of Gen. Michael Flynn, the incoming National Security Advisor. Unprecedented politicization of intelligence & law enforcement. Of course, MSM will ignore.

I am pleased to announce that I will name Robert C. O’Brien, currently serving as the very successful Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, as our new National Security Advisor. I have worked long & hard with Robert. He will do a great job!

Trump condensed: My senior policy advisor? I had nothing to do with him. My campaign chairman? Only with me for a short time. My national security advisor? A liar. My foreign policy advisor? He was just a coffee boy. Don Jr? Um ... fake news!

Trump abruptly cancelled sanctions on those helping North Korea cheat, imposed only yesterday and championed by his own national security advisor, because he “loves” Kim. Foolish naïveté is dangerous enough. Gross incompetence and disarray in the White House make it even worse.
