The federal indictment charges Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao with violating George Floyd's civil rights. It's separate from state charges brought against the four former Minneapolis police officers

Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Kueng appeared via videoconference in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. Chauvin was not part of the court appearance.

Derek Chauvin and three other ex-Minneapolis police officers were indicted by the Justice Department on civil rights charges in the killing of #GeorgeFloyd . Chauvin was also charged in a 2017 case involving a 14-year-old boy.

In a federal indictment, @TheJusticeDept  alleges that two ex-Minneapolis police officers “failed to intervene” to stop Derek Chauvin from using “unreasonable force” on George Floyd. And that the ex-officers saw Floyd was in need of medical care but “willfully failed to aid him."
