The Rays have declined their options on Charlie Morton ($15M) and Mike Zunino ($4.5M).

The Pirates claimed C Michael Perez off waivers from the Rays. Perez and Mike Zunino - whose $4.5M option was declined by Tampa Bay earlier in the day - started 52 of the Rays' 60 games behind the plate in 2020. Kevan Smith, who started the other 8, is still on TB's roster.

The Rays have two club options to address this week: Mike Zunino $4.5M club option Charlie Morton $15M club option

Mariners fans have every reason to be happy for Mike Zunino reaching the World Series. But citing him as another example of a player who thrived once he left Seattle isn't entirely true, given how the Rays use him. @StoneLarry 's column:

Although there haven't been champagne/beer spraying celebrations in clubhouses this season because of MLB rules, Mike Zunino said he heard a rumor that "if you win the last game of the year, you can pop some bottles.” He said he misses the burn in his eyes.

If it feels like the Rays score almost exclusively on homers, it’s basically true. With Mike Zunino’s blast, the Rays have now scored 41 of their 56 runs this postseason via the homer, so 73 percent. During the regular season, their rate was 42 percent, per the Rays’ game notes.

IT'S OUTTA HERE! This time off the bat of Mike Zunino and deep into the stands #RaysUp  #Postseason  builds its lead to 3- @RaysBaseball0
