Mexico confirms 1st COVID-19 case at Matamoros migrant camp; patient removed
Recently, dozens of parents at the Matamoros camp have watched as their children, sleeping outside in the cold, have become sick or despondent. Many decided to get them help the only way they knew how — sending them across the border alone.
Unlike most refugee camps, Matamoros has no United Nations presence. It receives no US funding. People sleep in camping tents on the sidewalk and bathe in the Rio Grande. Some will have to wait there for over a year.
LIVE from Matamoros, Mexico, right across the bridge from Brownsville, Texas: Hundreds of people are being blocked from applying for asylum. They are forced to live in "tent cities" under Trump's Remain in Mexico policy. This is happening right at our doorstep.
No invasion at the US-Mexico border. No need for the National Guard. The violence in Mexico has NOT crossed to the US side. Here’s what I saw in Matamoros, Tamaulipas (a few miles from Brownsville, Texas).
