I was at what I think was Maradona's final World Cup game in 1994. Was at Foxboro against Nigeria. He was barely mobile...hardly ran. But still dominated every time he touched the ball. It was pure magic.
Never seen a player move as fluidly as Maradona, genuinely as if the ball was an organic extension of him. He had a lot of different incarnations and meant a lot to different people - most of all Argentina and Naples - but as much as anything was the pure freedom of football.
Diego Maradona on Cristiano Ronaldo: "There are players who are touched by the magic wand. Us Argentines are proud Messi's Argentinian & didn't go with Spain." "The other is an animal. Ronaldo's pure power & is a sorcerer: he said he'd score three goals & he scored three goals."
? Diego Maradona: "Messi and Cristiano are players who are touched by the magic wand. Us Argentines are proud that Messi is Argentinian and did not go with the Spanish. Cristiano is an animal, pure power and is now also a sorcerer. He said he'd score 3 goals, and he did it."
