The world is watching Iranians young and old confront the Islamic regime amid fears of a worsening crackdown. It's day 18 of unprecedented protests that erupted after the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. @JomanaCNN  spoke to one of the student protesters.

Thank you, @BeckyCNN , for covering Shervin Hajipour’s important story and the global solidarity for Iranians. Behind every line of this song, there is pain and suffering of living under the Islamic Republic. #MahsaAmini  #مهسا_امینی #IranProtests2022

Opinion: Iranians only want one thing: replacement of the terrorist regime

In the wake of Mahsa Amini’s tragic death, ordinary Iranians - particularly women and girls - are showing immense courage in challenging the regime’s oppression. We stand in solidarity. The killing of protestors is horrific. Time for new sanctions against those responsible.

There's a lot of bad news in the world today. Iranians and Ukrainians, however, give me hope. They are bending the long arc of history towards justice, freedom, and democracy. I am in awe of their bravery and convictions.

Young Iranians “don’t want this system any more,” says Marjane Satrapi, author of Persepolis. “They want democracy.” “They want a new government… This generation is very, very different from us,” she tells me, especially young men's solidarity with women’s rights inside Iran.

Iranians are protesting for their basic human rights in the aftermath of the horrific death of Mahsa Zhina Amini. Iranians deserve to live free from violence and intimidation. The world is watching.

#MahsaAmini is an Iranian woman who was beaten to death last week in a “re-education center” for not wearing her hijab correctly. Her death lead to thousands of Iranians taking to the streets, demanding an end to violence and discrimination against women.

Just remember, the Iranians never won a war, but never lost a negotiation!

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!

Seems like my recent tweet—retweeted by President Trump—drew an irascible response from Chuck Schumer. My point was that Trump can no more trust the Dems & the media with advance notice of an attack than he can trust the Iranians themselves

Iranians will consider US killing soleimani an act of war. A proxy war could erupt. Likely in iraq, but also a danger in lebanon and israel. This is a big escalation.

Neither were the Iranians, and for pretty much the same reason
