Good morning! ☕️ In case you missed it, last night, Senate Democrats confirmed longtime voting rights attorney and advocate Myrna Pérez to a lifetime seat on a U.S. appeals court.

"As scholars and civil society activists have warned for years, the problems with Facebook are built into the machine’s structure. It cannot be reformed; it can only be dismantled and hopefully made into something less threatening." @SilvermanJacob  writes

A Black civil rights activist arrested at age 15 in Montgomery, Alabama for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus wants her record expunged. Claudette Colvin was arrested in March 1955, nine months before Rosa Parks, and given "indefinite" probation. She is now 82.

Months before Rosa Parks became the mother of the modern civil rights movement by refusing to move to the back of a segregated Alabama bus, Black teenager Claudette Colvin did the same.

Perez's confirmation comes at a time when voting rights are under assault nationwide. Republicans in 19 states have enacted at least 31 new laws THIS YEAR to restrict voting rights -- primarily targeting people of color -- and overhaul elections for their own partisan gains.

The Senate confirms voting rights advocate Myrna Pérez as a judge on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, making her the only Latino on the court and its first Latina since Sonia Sotomayor.

I stand with the Palestinian people. My heart aches for the families who have lost loved ones. We can not stand as silent witnesses to children being orphaned and murdered and not demand for the human rights of all Palestinians! This must end. Free Palestine.

I wrote out some thoughts on how to make this moment a real turning point to bring about real change––and pulled together some resources to help young activists sustain the momentum by channeling their energy into concrete action.

The importance of knowing your rights - and having a camera...

This is not a political issue this is a human rights issue. This is systematic racism and oppression at the hands of law enforcement in our country. We want justice and we want change. It shouldn't have happened once and it should never happen again. This is not a discussion.

Every police department violating people's civil rights must be stripped of federal funding.

We've seen all too terribly the consequences of those who denied warnings of a pandemic. We can't afford any more consequences of climate denial. All of us, especially young people, have to demand better of our government at every level and vote this fall.

Isn’t it amazing how upset the police get when you know your rights?
