More fallout on the NI Protocol: The European Parliament has postponed a decision on ratifying the EU UK free trade agreement in protest at the UK’s unilateral move on how the Northern Ireland Protocol should be implemented.

EU Finance Commissioner Mairead McGuinness thinks extending the deadline for checks on the Northern Irish border with Great Britain may delay the Brexit deal’s ratification by the European Parliament.

UK said it plans to unilaterally to extend the period to introduce post-Brexit customs checks at Northern Ireland’s ports for at least six months. The European Parliament says it may not approve the Brexit deal if that happens.

Group leaders in the European Parliament on Thursday endorsed the plan to launch the Conference on the Future of Europe. It came after months of delay because of bickering between institutions over who should or should not be in charge. More:
