The Family of Fort Hood Sgt. Elder Fernandes questions the Army’s effort to find him before he died.

Army Sergeant Elder Fernandes of Brockton was alive for days after he was discharged from a Fort Hood psychiatric hospital in August, newly released police reports show, raising the troubling possibility that searchers could have prevented his death.

The Army failed Elder Fernandes, Vanessa Guillen, and every soldier who has suffered at Fort Hood. Their families deserve justice. @SenMarkey  and I want Army leadership to testify in the Senate on this gross disregard for soldiers’ safety and well-being.

This is about justice. It’s about character. It’s about good order and discipline. It’s about doing right by those who volunteer to serve. It's about the families of Vanessa Guillen, Gregory Wedel-Morales, Elder Fernandes and others who are in pain. Let's do better.

Earlier this year, Sgt. Elder Fernandes of Brockton went missing from Fort Hood. His body was found hanging from a tree 30 miles north of the base.

The US Army is asking for the public's help in finding 23-year-old soldier Elder Fernandes, according to a statement from Fort Hood in Texas. This year, there have been a series of incidents in which Fort Hood soldiers have vanished and died.

A missing Fort Hood solider is believed dead after police found a body. 23-year-old Elder Fernandes was recently transferred to a different unit at the base after reporting “abusive sexual contact.” At least 7 other Fort Hood soldiers have been found dead since March.
