The @RiflesRegiment  was formed in 2007 through the merger of four Regiments. In July 2020, The Duchess of Cornwall succeeded The Duke of Edinburgh as Colonel-in-Chief during ceremonies held at Windsor Castle and Highgrove House.

The Prince of Wales tells the @WelshGuards , who were part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral at Windsor Castle, that they “did him proud” on the day.

The Prince of Wales has been Colonel of the Welsh Guards since 1975 and prior to this HRH’s father The Duke of Edinburgh served in the role from 1953. The @WelshGuards  were present at the funeral of The Duke of Edinburgh, lining the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle.

Speaking to the regiment, some of whom had taken part in his father’s funeral, the Prince of Wales said they had done both the Duke of Edinburgh, and himself proud.

Prince Charles says the Royal Family were deeply moved by the military’s role in his father’s funeral and those on parade did the Duke of Edinburgh proud.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s cause of death was officially recorded as “old age”, it has been reported

The Prince of Wales took over from his father as Colonel of the Welsh Guards in 1975, a role that the Duke of Edinburgh had held since 1953.
