The GOP has made no mystery of its opposition to comprehensive gun control. Now they’ll even hold up the person who’s supposed to oversee firearms regulations: David Chipman, Biden’s nominee to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Kudos to Biden for using his limited unilateral authority, for calling on Congress to do more and for nominating the well-qualified David Chipman to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Editorial Board writes
I encourage the Senate to move quickly on President Biden’s nominee to be ATF director, David Chipman. The ATF hasn’t had a Senate-confirmed director since 2015, and that’s simply unacceptable. Mr. Chipman is well-qualified to lead ATF and I’m glad President Biden picked him.
Hey @SenMarkKelly ,
Will you vote to confirm David Chipman as ATF Director when he was a senior lobbyist of the gun control organization founded by you and your wife?
This is a clear conflict of interest...
President Joe Biden plans to nominate gun control advocate David Chipman as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, sources tell AP. Chipman is a retired ATF agent and an adviser at Giffords, which advocates stronger gun laws.
In his first major gun control measures since taking office, President Biden is announcing executive actions aimed at addressing what the White House calls a “gun violence public health epidemic." Biden also is nominating David Chipman as ATF director.
