Ferguson activist Cori Bush won a Dem. primary in Missouri, beating a 20-year incumbent and almost guaranteeing her a seat in Congress. She began leading protests after the police killing of #MichaelBrown . "I'm just the activist with no name... But St. Louis showed up today."

Cori Bush, a leader of the swelling protest movement for racial justice, upset a 20-year incumbent in a Democratic House primary in St. Louis. If elected in November, she would be the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress.

This is a huge deal in St. Louis politics. Cori Bush (once homeless with two kids) ousts 20-year incumbent William Lacy Clay (whose dad also held the seat for three decades before him) on second try. First try was 2018, covered in Knock Down the House.

BREAKING - With 100% of the vote in, Cori Bush narrowly defeats Lacy Clay in the Democratic primary. The Clay's have represented the district for 50+ years.

Cori Bush, a nurse and Black Lives Matter Activist, is projected by the AP to win a Democratic primary in Missouri, ousting William Lacy Clay, a longtime incumbent. Clay, who succeeded his father, has represented the 1st District since 2001.

Tishaura Jones said her victory was part of “a wave of black girl magic in the state of Missouri,” which also included wins by three African American women in other major races Tuesday: Her victory Cori Bush and Alissia Canady

An activist for racial justice and a single mother, Cori Bush would be the first Black woman to represent the state of Missouri in Congress if she wins the election in November. Her win upset one of the most enduring Democratic dynasties in the country.
