Google today is celebrating Alexandre Dumas, the black novelist from France who wrote the Three Musketeers. His father, a famous French soldier, known as the Black Count, was born in Haiti to a French nobleman and an enslaved woman of African descent.

For those asking, no, I don’t think the president referring to 54 predominantly black countries as “shitholes” as opposed to 55 predominantly black countries (+ Haiti) makes a huge difference *in principle.* But reporting facts is the job and what exactly was said matters.
