Intercept EIC Betsy Reed sent me this statement regarding the departure of @ggreenwald , saying there's a "fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship."
Intercept editor Betsy Reed: “Greenwald’s decision to resign from The Intercept stems from a fundamental disagreement over the role of editors in the production of journalism and the nature of censorship....He believes that anyone who disagrees with him is corrupt” Full reax
@robpenner @Delilah399T @MensahITSMEh @soledadobriene @betsyreed2se people are pathological liars. Betsy Reed has been the Editor of the Intercept since 2015. I play no role in its editorial management & had no role in the Reality Winner story. Anyone who cares about RW- as opposed to exploiting her as a toy for Twitter insults- knows that.
@psael First, @TheInterceptBrthe system is exactly the same. All the work is being done under the editorial supervision of our editor-in-chief in NYC, Betsy Reed, and in Brazil with Leandro Demori. Second, the docs are "authenticated " the same way. 3rd: we will work with other media outlets as we did.
I don't know why people insist on erasing Betsy Reed - the actual Editor-in-Chief of the Intercept - but they do. I don't edit or "run" TI.
