An “originalist” reading of the Constitution would disqualify Judge Barrett, or any woman, from serving on the Supreme Court or from owning property or voting. “Originalism” is a cover for deeply unpopular & un-democratic policies, not some kind of serious judicial philosophy.

I’ll say this again, the most damning indictment against Judge Amy Coney Barrett right now is that she’s willing to be put on the Supreme Court under these circumstances. It raises enormous questions about her character, ethics and judgment.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett is an exceptionally impressive jurist and an exceedingly well-qualified nominee to the Supreme Court.   A brilliant scholar. An exemplary judge. President Trump could not have made a better decision.
